Giovanni is a 12-year-old boy. His father is African American and his mother is from El Salvador. He is fluent in English and Spanish, and has an extremely good memory. He speaks clearly, but has a number of issues with grammar and does not adjust his language well when talking about academic subjects like science or history.
He is very uncomfortable with reading and writing, and is currently reading and writing at a second-grade level. When asked to read or write, he gets bored or disengaged easily and can sometimes be disruptive.
Giovanni loves cars, and is learning how to fix up an old broken down El Camino that he and his father bought together. He says that when it's all fixed, his dad is going to teach him to drive it and it will be his car.
