Discussion Week 4

1. If you were a missionary in the fifth or sixth century who chose (like St. Patrick) to convert a barbarous nation to Christianity, how would you go about it? What skills and resources would you need?

 

[Patrick at least knew what he was in for when he returned to spend the rest of his life converting the Irish to Christianity: "Thus I am a servant in Christ to a barbarous nation for the unspeakable glory of life everlasting which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Letter to Coroticus, who had recently captured some of Patrick's converts and sold them into slavery to the Picts in Northern Scotland. The letter is a real cry from the heart and is worth reading!]
