Josiah has a deep connection to the inner-city program for 5 -13 year olds where he works. He started attending the program at age 9: he loved swimming in the pool and playing basketball, and he kept coming back to the drop-in community center also housed at the site when he was a teenager. Because of his commitment to the program, he started as an assistant group leader there as soon as he turned 16.

Now, four years later, he’s the lead teacher for the 9-10 year-olds, connects well with the children and has their respect. He knows that increasing STEM enrichment activities is a new priority at his program, but he’s worried about how that will impact two program areas he feels are more important: homework time and gym time.
